Red flags in trucking job offers
Updated October 2026
Most companies are honest, but some offers don't hold up. Watch for these.
Warning signs
Pay that's far above every other offer with no clear reason. Vague answers about how miles are counted or how much drivers actually make. Lease-purchase deals that are pushed hard, especially to new drivers. Pressure to sign today. Training contracts with large early-exit costs that aren't explained clearly.
Do your homework
Look up the company's safety record on the FMCSA website, read driver reviews and talk to a current driver. Get every promise in writing.
